Dr. Karl Mallon
Co-Founder and CEO

Dr Karl Mallon is the Co-founder and CEO of XDI. With a background in both Physics and Mechanical Engineering, Karl has worked in climate change mitigation, policy and technical analysis since 1991, and has specialised in climate adaptation since 2005. His team’s pioneering work in developing technology to quantify the cost of extreme weather to the built environment led to the development of the Climate Risk Engines in 2012. Karl is editor and co-author of ‘Renewable Energy Policy and Politics: A Handbook for Decision Making’ published by Earthscan (London) and a contributing author for ‘Practical Adaptation Studies’, published by Wiley. Karl is also a founding board member of The Climate Bonds Initiative (London).

Miguel Garrido
Global Head of Commercial
and Partnerships

Miguel Garrido is the Head of Commercial & Partnerships at XDI, leading the company’s European office and global commercial strategy. With more than 10 years of business management experience and deep expertise in the XDI platform, he helps clients embed climate risk data into decision-making and resilience planning. Miguel combines risk management, governance, and sustainability expertise to build trusted partnerships, safeguard organisational reputation, and deliver strategies that advance climate resilience.

Dr. Gillian McCusker
Senior Customer Success Manager

Gillian is a climate scientist with over a decade of experience spanning academic research, B2B climate solutions, and data analytics. She has built her career at the intersection of climate science, capacity building, and disruptive, yet intuitive, SaaS products – all with the goal of accelerating climate action and advancing climate literacy across the private sector.

Max McKinlay
Head of Innovation, Product Manager

With 8 years at the company, Max is Head of Innovation and Product Manager for the Model Owners team, working at the forefront of climate change risk assessment. They lead the development of tools that turn complex climate models into actionable insights for clients across sectors. With a background in marine biology, Max brings a systems-thinking approach to product development, innovation strategy, and cross-functional collaboration. His work supports the delivery of scalable, science-driven solutions that help organisations respond to a changing climate.

Dawn Yang
Senior Climate Scientist

Dawn joined the Climate Risk Group in 2023, where she works on the development, maintenance, validation, and documentation of hazard models. She also chairs the Science Forum and leads efforts to strengthen TCRG’s connections with the broader climate research community.Dawn completed her PhD at Monash University in 2021, where her research focused on attribution analysis of Australian extreme weather drivers through climate model experiments, with a particular emphasis on heavy rainfall events. Prior to joining TCRG, Dawn worked at the EPA Victoria, where she developed the waste levy time series forecasting model to support evidence-based decision making.

Joshua Hartigan
Senior Scientist

Joshua Hartigan has been a Climate Scientist with The Climate Risk Group since 2021, with his work focused on developing convective storm and tropical cyclone hazard models. Josh has always been enthusiastic about severe weather, commencing his research on severe convective storms at the University of Newcastle, using numerical simulations to model the effect of the sea breeze airmass. Josh then completed a PhD at UTS, where he modelled Australian tornadic storms and developed a national storm hazard climatology using machine learning. During his PhD, he also used machine learning to identify climate drivers of meteorological drought over southeast Australia.

Stella Pyke
Customer Success Manager

Stella began her career at Australia’s largest retail pension fund before transitioning into the sustainability sector. She has since worked on project delivery in both Australia and the UK, across public and private sectors. Stella brings experience in various aspects of sustainability, including physical and transitional climate risk and the circular economy. Stella holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Environment and Sustainability.

Matthew Skiffington
Data Product Specialist

Matthew is a data analyst with two years of experience producing and interpreting official government statistics for tourism, economics, and ambulance services in New Zealand. At XDI, he uses his background in governmental statistics to lead analysis for public sector clients. With data analytics expertise, Matthew supports the refinement and operation of sophisticated climate data modeling and processing systems.

Navin brings 3 years of climate data analytics to the team, including experience in acute and chronic hazard modelling, and the financial quantification of both acute and chronic physical climate risk for corporates and public sectors from his previous role at Willis Towers Watson.

Jacquelyn Lamb
Head of SaaS Operations

Jackie’s work matches Climate Risk Engine’s tech innovation with XDI project needs. She is the chief technical expert on XDI Globe and AdaptXDI and leads training for clients. Her expertise covers urban water distribution, telecommunications, property insurance and local government. She specialises in data acquisition, spatial analysis and modelling. Jackie has lead recent work modelling the impacts of extreme weather and climate change to urban infrastructure as well as cost benefit analysis of multi-control adaptation measures.

Bringing over a decade of experience as a developer, Ben has built apps, websites, and systems across diverse sectors including point of sale, government, and fintech. Most recently, they worked in the mental health research field, developing innovative digital therapies for young people. Waseem studied Mechanical Engineering before starting out as an Industrial Design Engineer at an emergency lighting company. After that, they shifted into education as an Engineering Technology Facilitator at a project-based learning boarding school. From there, Waseem transitioned into software engineering, working across SaaS applications, industrial 3D printing, and now focusing on climate risk analysis.

Alireza Taghdisian

Ali has a background in civil and environmental engineering and is currently pursuing a PhD in Industrial Ecology. He has several years of experience in data analytics and sustainability modelling, combining technical and environmental expertise to support decision-making. Since joining XDI in April 2024, Ali has applied his analytical and modelling skills to assess climate risk, infrastructure vulnerability, and adaptation strategies.

Dan connects Climate Risk Engine’s core systems with XDI’s product suite, ensuring reliable, user-focused delivery. As Compliance Manager, Dan also oversees XDI’s ISO 27001 certification, maintaining high standards of data security and governance.

Tim provides oversight of technology development and manages a stable of coders to keep the Climate Risk Engines updated and computing smoothly. Tim leads development of the apps used to access and visualise analysis produced by the Climate Risk Engines.
